Love, love, love this. I wish we were required, just as we are required to learn to read and write, to learn economics and the mechanics of credit as it affects, in reality, people in each strata of society. Why on earth is an economy built on borrowing money and virtual stock market earnings a good thing??? I wish I'd learned before my 30's about how debt and saving and the market work... about how when the average paycheck to paycheck joe fails to meet their credit payments, they are in deep oatmeal and face consequences that will take years to recover from, about how medical bills can cost a person or a family everything they have... but when corporations who profit even more by slamming paycheck to paycheck joe with huge fees and penalties can't meet *their* obligations or even worse blow all of their employees' retirement funds as at Enron, they get a slap on the wrist at worst, but more likely a meal ticket. If I have to be responsible and pay for my failures, mistakes or predatory practices, lose my house or car or even be prosecuted, politicians and businesses and their officers/boards/owners/highest management must be too.
