Written on Going Caveman: Will Crossfit Training, a Paleo Diet, and Minimalist Running Make You Prehistoric-Strong—Or Just Worn Out?:

CrossFit can be life altering in either a positive or negative way. I have to agree with unluckylady in that CrossFit must be respected.

Most people are not getting paid to work out. If you want to improve fitness and longevity, people should not be trying to emulate the CrossFit Games competitors. There are more similarities than dissimilarities between the athlete wanting to compete in CrossFit versus the athlete wanting to improve health; but those dissimilarities are so important and need to be understood by both the athlete and coach.

Longevity should absolutely be a huge part of any fitness program, CrossFit included. I think what is missing from a lot of CrossFit programs is this longevity tenet. It's awesome to set a personal record on your Olympic lift, but not if you are reducing the years your shoulders have left of healthy, functional movement.

Unluckylady is right. Respecting CrossFit, and more generally human movement, will do your body and health a world of good.
