As long as families with children can not live downtown [ i) the rent is too darn high and ii) the schools 'we want': Bearden, Farragut, West, Hardin Valley are all in the west suburbs) ]; the growth of the downtown area will not be sustainable. There is only a limited supply of high income couples who can afford and manage to live downtown without good and accessible schools, with limited access to grocery shopping and without affordable 3 to 4 bedrooms apartments/townhouses.
