Written on Friends and Family Remember Shannon Stanfield (1964-2010):

Well put Dana..
Shannon Stanfield was one of the inspirations for the band Turbine 44. We had been recording tapes in the basement and never entertained the thought of playing that stuff "live". Greg Rogers and I played a recording for Shannon titled "kissing the porcelain god", a horrible piece that included our homemade synthesizer. Shannon liked it and suggested we open up one evening for his newly formed band The 5 Twins. I'm not so convinced that he actually liked the recording but rather just wanted to see the audiences faces when we would perform that noise. Either way, it was enough positive feedback from a guy that we looked up to, for us to continue. Turbine 44 opened up for the 5 Twins in March of 1981 at Bundulee's Lounge.
Shannon got me on stage and in front of a microphone. I've been there ever since in some shape or form. Whether playing music, working as a Clintons roadie in New York City, soundman, or becoming a Dj, it all started back with those encouraging words from a true music pioneer and great friend by the name of Shannon Stanfield.
