For the record, I was actively pursuing purchase of the buildings at the same time as Mr. Saroff. Even though advised by my mentors to "run away - no amount of money you have will be enough to fix them" - the appeal of the buildings (well described in your story) was immediately apparent, and it was easy to see them fixed, working, and glorious again. Our last offer was $45,500, $500 over my limit, and my understanding at the time was the Mr. Saroff paid marginally more than that.
