I think some people in Knoxville have delusions of grandeur about the progressiveness of the city and need to venture out of East TN more. Knoxville only stands "heads and shoulders" above its sister cities in TN in the fight for equality if you're talking about Chattanooga which is its closest peer. Passing a cleverly drafted version of a law that Nashville passed years ago only to be preempted by the State does not make the city a "leader." I don't consider any city in Tennessee to be particularly gay-friendly, but Knoxville still has a ways to go to be as accepting as Nashville in that regard. And, yes, I have lived in both of these cities recently along with several other far more LGBT-friendly college towns than Knoxville.
