I totally agree with you on the trash Andrew Lloyd Webber and his ilk (as you put it) are producing - I've come to dislike musicals which is a pity. Last year I saw Billy Elliot in London and didn't like it at all...The last really great ones I happened to see where the American productions of 42nd Street and Chorus Line here in Germany about 10 and 15 years ago. After reading your review I wish I could just fly over to see Guys & Dolls. Concerning Alan Rickman I couldn' agree more: Last year I had the pleasure to see him on stage in Manchester (Rushdie's The Ground Beneath Her Feet) and he was mesmerizing; all eyes were on him for 90 minutes. For me he is one of the best actors alive. Which play did you see with him? Private Lives?
