Written on Electing Judges in Partisan Elections Is a Bad Idea:

Better judges should be appointed by a partisan, and likely corrupt if recent history is any guide, politician chosen in a partisan, and likely corrupt if recent history is any guide, election?

Elections are supposed to be partisan as are the candidates and the political parties are supposed to represent differing ideologies. One of our biggest electoral problems today is that the Democrats play Santa while the Republicans claim to be able to play Santa less expensively. To my mind the unwillingness of the Republican party to actually promote conservatism and republicanism is at the root of America's demise.

For the purposes here 'conservatism' can be read as the citizen having more say in his or her life that the government and 'republicanism' can be read as a federal government controlled by the states and their citizens. Too many of us have forgotten that the federal government is supposed to be a union of state governments for the purpose of protecting the whole nation from foreign influences - like war and invasion or other illegal border crossings.
