Mike’s article showcasing some of the obstacles faced by Knoxville’s film and television industry mirror many of the same issues around the state. The Association for the Future of Film & Television (AFFT) was formed in hopes of addressing the industry’s issues at the Legislative level. Although Mike referred to AFFT as a “Nashville-based” organization, it is in reality a STATEWIDE trade association whose Board must always seat representatives from East Tennessee, Middle Tennessee, West Tennessee and Chattanooga. The ONLY way that the hardworking people in film and television can improve the economy of their industry is to stand together and create a united force for the future of film and television. Tennessee will never become the location of choice for every film or television project. But with an ongoing incentive fund (even one that pales next to other states' offerings), we should be able to host at least 8 – 10 good projects that have a natural fit to our state. I hope that everyone in Knoxville will visit our website at www.affttennessee.org and then join with us as we move forward!~Jan Austin, Executive Director
