"I think back to the '80s and into the new century when Knoxville had corporations based here like White Lily, Magnavox, Goody's, Watson's, Whittle Communications and dozens more that provided great jobs to thousands of folks in the community. I once sat down and listed more than 30 major corporations that have moved from the area or gone bankrupt. No matter what the reason, the net result is a loss of high-paying jobs and support for the hundreds of small businesses that worked with those corporations. What Knoxville needs is a serious recruitment program to get corporations to move their offices and manufacturing to Knoxville. We need better-paying and higher-paying technical and manufacturing jobs."
