The war on blight continues! At this meeting, appeals are heard on properties cited by the public officer. A public officer meeting is also schedule for Friday at 9:30 a.m., same place.

Friday, Aug. 31

2012 Knoxville Overdose Awareness Candlelight Vigil

Drug abuse, from prescription pain-killers to homemade meth, is rampant in East Tennessee. For anyone who has lost friends or family to drug overdoses, this vigil will provide a cathartic way to share memories of loved ones.

Saturday, Sept. 1

8 a.m., Krutch Park Extension. $30.

This first annual fund-raiser starts and ends at Krutch Park, running down Gay Street, across Summitt Hill to Emory Place, then through the Fourth and Gill neighborhood. Visit etkidney.org for more info.

Sunday, Sept. 2

Boomsday 2012

1-10 p.m., Neyland Drive.

The fireworks start at 9:30 p.m., with more than 20,000 shells exploding over the heads of some 400,000 spectators. We admit, you may have trouble finding parking for this one unless you show up early.
