Vols Draw Frugal Travelers

So this team will probably never break the Top 25—at least the Vols appeal to cost-conscious fans. University of Tennessee's football program and Knoxville itself formed one of eight "America's Top College Football Towns" in a Sept. 13 article on BudgetTravel.com.

The travelogue cited such positives as the 325-passenger Star of Knoxville, "top local barbecue spot" Calhoun's with award-winning baby-back ribs from $13, and the 28-room Hotel St. Oliver in an 1876 building in the Market Square area, with doubles from $89. It also warns travelers that "Rocky Top" will resound throughout the stadium at least 20 times a game, though whether that enhances or detracts from the bargain is not made clear.

Some of the other seven "towns" selected as college football deals do a bit better on the gridiron. They are Austin, Tex. (University of Texas Longhorns); Boise, Idaho (Boise State University Broncos); Eugene, Ore. (University of Oregon Ducks); Madison, Wis. (University of Wisconsin Badgers); Manoa, Hawaii (University of Hawaii Warriors); Morgantown, W.Va. (West Virginia University Mountaineers); and Oxford, Miss (University of Mississippi Rebels).
