THURSDAY, JUNE 5

GET ON THE LOCAL TRAILS HIKE

Legacy Parks and Missy Kane of Covenant Health

8:45 am at Outdoor Knoxville Adventure Center

Enjoy a three-mile walk/hike on the James White Greenway and around Morningside Park. After the hike, Billy Lush Paddle Shop will give a Standup paddleboard demonstration then offer an optional hour Paddle board or canoe rental at half price!

YAPPY HOUR

Smoky Mountain DockDogs

6 pm at Wild Wing Cafe

Yappy Hour is scheduled the 1st Thursday of each month. In addition to good food and company, you can watch members of Smoky Mountain DockDogs jump their dogs. If you want to give dock diving a try, members of SMDD will be on hand to assist you and share their love of this fabulous sport.

LIGHT THE NIGHT 5K

LMU-DCOM Physician Assistant Program

8:30 pm at Harrogate City Park

Participants run through the LMU campus in bright clothing and glowing accessories to "light the night" sky! Event benefits Servolution Health Services.

SATURDAY, JUNE 7

NATIONAL TRAILS DAY/APPALACHIAN TRAIL WORKDAY

Friends of the Smokies

7:30 am at Sugarlands Visitor Center

Help improve hiking conditions on the Appalachian Trail in the Smokies. This event happens rain or shine. Wear layered clothing, boots or sturdy shoes. Bring plenty of water, RAIN GEAR, lunch, snacks, work gloves, sunscreen, & bug repellent.

XTERRA KNOXVILLE

Dirty Bird Events

8 am at Meads Quarry

XTERRA Points Series comes to Knoxville to bring you one of the toughest and most exciting races on the circuit. Portions of the proceeds benefit Legacy Parks Foundation. Course includes: Swim .75 miles, Bike 16.6 miles, and Run 4.1 miles.

FREE FISHING DAY

TWRA, Knox County Parks & Rec and TN Valley Sportsman Club

8 am to noon at the Cove at Concord Park

TWRA will provide fishing equipment and have several door prize drawings for kids. The Tennessee Valley Sportsman Club will be cooking free hot dogs and snacks.

STREAM SCHOOL FOR KIDS

Little River Watershed Association

Program is geared towards kids 4th grade and up, but we welcome younger students interested in learning about stream health and water quality provided they attend with a parent. Families are encouraged to attend.

GO & GLOW in the Dark is an official partner event of the National Get Outdoors Day initiative. There will be loads of glow-in-the-dark kids' activities and events as well, such as a rock climbing and graffiti walls, "glow wash" for kids, s'mores stations, bike & trike treks, pup parades & pup costume contest, among others. "Yappie Hour" for pups begins at 7pm. Fabulous food trucks and adult beverages also available.

This is a great way to get started in paddling and to advance your skills if you are already boating. This years courses included: Beginner and Advanced Beginner instruction in whitewater kayak and canoe; intermediate instruction for kayak and canoe; and Kayak touring classes.

Epic ride winds along the Tail of The Dragon snaking around 318 curves over an 11-mile span that climbs over 9,000 feet over 115 miles. Options include rides of 35, 62 and 115 miles will be fully SAG supported with well-stocked rest stops.

5K course with a beautiful view of nature on paved trails through the woods and along the lake shore.
