More Ridges to Meet

The second public meeting to discuss the draft plan from the Joint City-County Task Force on Ridge, Slope and Hillside Development and Protection takes place this Thursday. If you'll recall Jesse Fox Mayshark's electrifying Aug. 19 article, this task force formed two years ago in response to the 2007 controversy over a KUB water tower on a ridgetop in South Knox County. Some SoKno residents thought the tower was an eyesore and were unhappy to discover the lack of protections for these areas, and so the group of 30 was tasked with coming up with some guidelines for balancing development with ecological, aesthetic, and public safety concerns.

If approved by the Metropolitan Planning Commission and both municipal governments, the plan now being discussed will serve as the road map for creating ordinances and zoning regulations. But first, the public gets another crack at it, this time at 6 p.m. at Farragut High School, 11237 Kingston Pike. The draft is available online at
