Meet Your Candidates

It's after the 4th in a year ending in an even number, which means (at least) one thing: political campaigns. To help you decide which state and local candidates deserve the fancy of your finger—the index finger, that is—next week there are two events.

On Tuesday, the Sierra Club's local group will host candidates running for State Senate and House seats that represent Knox County. There will be a moderated Q&A, so bring your toughest questions on alternative energy, coal ash, energy efficiency, and mountaintop removal for those seeking office, and don't leave until you've drawn tears. The event begins at 7 p.m. at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian-Universalist Church, 2931 Kingston Pike.

Two days later, on July 15, Hubert Smith, who hosts a radio show on WUTK, will welcome candidates seeking a seat on County Commission, county mayor, and in one of the three school board races (for background on these races, visit metropulse.com). Smith's forum takes place in main assembly of the City-County Building, and also begins at 7 p.m.
