Let Him Who is Without Sin Cast the First Truckload

From the files of the Knoxville Police Department

With its 700 churches, Knoxville has the highest per capita ratio of churches in Tennessee, which is no small feat. It also has one solid waste management facility and two privately owned landfills. While churches are obviously much more common in Knoxville than dumps, it's shocking nonetheless that one could be mistaken for the other.

The Knoxville Police Department received a call from a member of the St. Paul East United Methodist Church at 9:25 a.m. on June 26. The caller reported that when she and her fellow parishioners arrived for that morning's services, they found what she described as a "dump-truck load" of trash strewn across the property.

Fortunately, police were able to utilize two important clues to solve the case: 1.) Several pieces of mail were included in the trash, all of which bore the same address. 2.) When officers drove by the residence at that address, they observed—yes—a dump truck parked in the front yard.
