I don't have any answers either, but thought I'd point out another perspective.

Winter Reading Assignments

I am time and time again impressed by the reasoning, the scientific facts and principles brought to bear, the clear-eyed view of history and the sheer eloquence of authors such as Simpson in contrast to the lies and distortions, the two-bit logic, the sentimentality and the cheap sloganeering of the politically correct crowd. Witness from page 438 of Which Way Western Man? the beautifully written words: "Let me have the proud and fiery glance, the towering conception, and even the demonic will to do and to endure, even though now and then, or even often, it makes war, rather than the sleepiness and stupor of a people too soft, too tired, too timid, too something, to strike any sparks from the flint of life...."

Obviously, to the readers, I recommend this book. But whether from this book or from others you can learn things that one should know--things that you simply will not get from that idiot box TV set; things such as the financing of Cromwell and the consequent fleecing of the British Empire by the Bank of England, and the pattern it set for the fleecing of our nation; the role of the Balfour Declaration in the gutting of Europe, and the role that we played in that, and how the people that brought revolution to Russia in a sealed railway car across Europe are the same people that now bring social revolution to our shores. And, finally, those that still retain a childlike faith in our democracy can continue to play along with the insult of voting for Puppet A or Puppet B. Those with sneaking suspicions can find out who really runs this country by seeking out and reading such books as None Dare Call It Conspiracy , America's Unelected Rulers or The Invisible Government .

Green Party On

This is completely misleading because the Green Party candidate at that rally was there to show support for the rights of illegal immigrants. Of the Ten Key Values [from ] of the Green Party, one is about Social Justice and Equal Opportunity: "All persons should have the rights and opportunity to benefit equally from the resources afforded us by society and the environment. We must consciously confront in ourselves, our organizations, and society at large, barriers such as racism and class oppression, sexism and homophobia, ageism and disability, which act to deny fair treatment and equal justice under the law."

More Suggested Reading

My library contains at least 12 books about Iraq, all of which have received critical praise from reviewers and all of which contain footnotes and other references that provide strong support for the author(s)' positions. I will mention a few on the chance that Ms. Golding might read them and replace her ignorance with knowledge. I sense, however, that she prefers to live with her fantasies rather than learn the truth.

The best books on the history of terrorism and how to deal with it are Louise Richardson's What Terrorists Want and Benjamin and Simon's The Next Attack . The latter makes a formidable case that our Iraq venture has contributed to the growth of various Jihadist movements worldwide. It also quotes Jihadist leaders to the effect that Bush's policies are just what was needed to recruit Muslims to their cause.

I would also recommend The Assassin's Gate by George Packer, The One Percent Doctrine by Ron Suskind, State of Denial by Bob Woodward, Fiasco by Thomas E. Ricks and in my opinion the single best coverage of why Iraq is so violent today and how to reduce that level, Peter Galbreath's The End of Iraq . Ms. Golding would also benefit if she read the New York Times , The Washington Post , The Los Angeles Times and even The Wall Street Journal as I do almost every day.

She would learn that, contrary to her expressed views, Clinton did make some mistakes but he learned from his errors. Competent people who worked for him and transferred in 2001 to the Bush administration warned Bush, Cheney and Rice to keep their eyes on al-Qaeda. They paid little or no attention until a couple of weeks before the 9/11 attack. The published post-9/11 Commission's report documents the failure of communications between the CIA and the FBI.

I said correctly that al-Qaeda played little or no role in Iraq. The Jihadist Zarqawi tried to legitimize his activities by naming his group al-Qaeda in Iraq. There were communications between Bin Laden and Zarqawi but the real al-Qaeda became very critical of Zarqawi's operations. There were and are foreign Jihadists operating in Iraq but according to our own military's estimates these Jihadists account for only about 10 percent of the violence in Iraq.

If Ms. Golding understood psychology she would understand that Jihadist leaders believe that if they praise Democrats and excoriate Republicans the American public might do the opposite, and 'til last November that's exactly how they voted.

I hate to tell Ms. Golding but November elections inform us that the American public has seen through the lies that emanate from both the liars in the White House and people like Ms. Golding, who it appears has never read anything that might disagree with her warped point of view.

Last of all, if Ms. Golding still doubts my credentials, I suggest that she read Political Stability in the Philippines; Framework and Analysis by Daniel Druckman and Justin J. Green. It was an early study that explained how to predict the success or failure of insurgencies. I was told that it was required reading at the CIA (who paid for the research) for a good many years.

Shut Your Bush-basher

Are you watching what's going on in the world? In Lebanon, right now, the democratically elected government is struggling to survive a power grab by Hezbollah, remember those guys? The ones who kidnapped two Israeli soldiers, fired a bunch of rockets in to Israel, unleashed hell on a lot of innocent people, backed by Syria, the one's who most likely aided in the assignation of Lebanon's George Hawi, Samir Kassir, and Pierre Gemayel, to name just a few along with Nuclear seeking Iran--the one's delivering sophisticated IEDs to kill American servicemen in Iraq.

You remember Iraq, don't you? The country ruled by a madman, along with his two rapist sons who gassed his own people.... oh sorry, that's right, he had no weapons of mass destruction. Next time you decide to start shooting your mouth off about our president, do us all a favor and put a sock in it.
