WDVX Gets Grant to Replace Damaged Transmitter

When lightning struck WDVX's transmitter in Campbell County in May, it knocked the station off the air for five days for most of its broadcast range. Since then, the station's been operating at reduced capacity, waiting for money to replace the damaged transmitter. They've just been awarded a grant from the federal Public Telecommunications Facilities Program for the project. But there's a catch: The station has to raise $11,000 to match 25 percent of the total cost of the project, which is expected to be about $44,000, and to do that they'll be holding a special fund-raising drive on Wednesday, Aug. 25.

The grant will cover a new transmitter and a new, taller antenna, as well as new studio equipment.
