The third season of the Square Room's Sound Off competition, a six-month battle of the bands that pays off with studio time and an AC Entertainment gig, is ready to go.
The first round, featuring the Jaystorm Project, Valley Young, Brimstone Treehouse, Lipliplip Hands, and Standing Small, starts at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 5. Each band will play two original songs and a '60s cover.
The remaining artists—many of them familiar, some brand new—are Brad Blackwell, Camillo the Ocean, Commerce, Dark Hollow Band, Dishwater Blonde, Earth Quaker, Folk Soul Revival, the Gentleman Conspiracy, Hey OK Fantastic, the Hotshot Freight Train, King Super and the Excellents, Maps Need Reading, O Youth!, Stewart Pack, S.O.S., Sons of the Southside, Soulfinger, Denver T. Stevens, Tabula Rasa, and Tuapha Dea.
Five bands face off against each other in front of a panel of experienced judges (including a Metro Pulse representative) on the first Wednesday of each month, except for January's round, which will be held on Jan. 11. The winners of each round meet in the final round on March 7. The grand-prize winner earns a developmental prize package including studio time to produce an EP, custom merchandise, up to $500 in gear, and an opening slot in a concert by AC Entertainment.
