The slightly lower-key revival of Ska Weekend, rechristened Ska Freekend, scheduled for this weekend at the Longbranch Saloon on Cumberland Avenue and the Catalyst in the Old City was abruptly canceled on Friday, Aug. 21. Details are still unclear, but Catalyst promoter Andrea Kerns says it was due to "lack of communication."
"As a result we have implemented a new contract to avoid such short-notice cancellations in the future," Kerns says in a press release issued earlier this week. "We tried to salvage the event over the weekend on a smaller scale, but most of the bands had already booked other shows."
Local band Three Kings will fill the opening at Catalyst on Saturday, Aug. 29, at 9 p.m. Admission is $5.
