A couple of years ago, Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney came across Royal Bangs' MySpace page and almost immediately signed the band to his new label, Audio Eagle. Carney reissued the band's debut album, We Breed Champions, on Audio Eagle last summer, to significant Internet buzz. ("It's discoveries like Royal Bangs that make a late night [well after 2:45 A.M.] worthwhile," wrote Spin's William Goodman after the group's set at Bonnaroo in 2008.)
A lot's happened for the band since then, primarily the addition of former Cold Hands singer/guitarist Henry Gibson to the lineup. Royal Bangs is set to unveil its first recording with Gibson on its second full-length, Let It Beep, due out sometime this fall on Audio Eagle. (Cincinnati music blog Each Note Secure has a download of "My Car Is Haunted" from the new album at eachnotesecure.com.)
A CD release show is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 3, at The Catalyst in the Old City, with a two-week tour of the East Coast and Midwest supporting Carney's side project Drummer to follow in October.
