Royal Bangs Announce Third Album, 'Flux Outside,' Due in March

2011 is already shaping up as a potential breakthrough year for local indie trio Royal Bangs, who will release their third album in March on Glassnote Records, just in time for an anticipated set of performances at the venerable SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, that month.

Flux Outside was recorded at former Sparklehorse member Scott Minor's North Knoxville studio in the fall and mixed and mastered by the band and award-winning producer David Fridmann (the Flaming Lips, Sleater-Kinney, MGMT) in upstate New York. The album will be released on March 29 on Glassnote, a small label founded by ex-EMI and Sony executive Daniel Glass in 2007 that also includes Trap Them, Mumford and Sons, and Phoenix on its roster.

The band's first album, We Breed Champions, was released by the band in 2006 and re-released in 2008 by Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney's Audio Eagle label. Audio Eagle also released Royal Bangs' second album, Let It Beep, in 2009.

Royal Bangs—Chris Rusk, Ryan Schaefer, and Sam Stratton—are finishing up a two-week tour at the end of this month with a headlining show at Public Assembly in New York.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story reported the wrong title for the Royal Bangs' first album. It is We Breed Champions, not We Are Champions. .
