Madre: 'Parameters'

Madre

Parameters

Two previous EPs seem to have helped Madre get a feel for the studio, because the band's new debut full-length sounds confident and competent. (Some credit goes to Eric Nowinski, who co-produced the album with the band at his Rock Snob studio.) There's something a little old-fashioned about Madre's songs, which sometimes reflect the spiky postpunk revival of the early '00s but also draw on '90s indie rock like Sebadoh and Pavement and, most frequently, Apples in Stereo. But the quartet offsets such recognizable influences with ambitious songwriting and fluid musicianship for an appealing, if not altogether original, introduction to their music.
