The Dirty Guv'nahs, winners of the Best Band award in Metro Pulse's Best of 2008 issue, just returned to Knoxville from Athens, Ga., where they spent the last week recording tracks for their second album.
The six-piece band, led by singer James Trimble, spent six days at Chase Park Transduction—both Cracker and the Drive-By Truckers have recorded there recently—with producer Dave Barbe, a veteran of Athens' 1980s college-rock scene. The as-yet-untitled follow-up to the Guv'nahs' 2007 album, Don't Need No Money, should be ready when the band plays the Bijou Theatre on Friday, April 10.
"The CD will feature 10 to 12 all-new tracks that exhibit much more maturity as songwriters," Trimble says. (Matthew Everett)
