Dar Williams Kicks Off Knoxville Garden Music Series

Knoxville Botanical Gardens and Arboretum, a 44-acre public garden in East Knoxville, has been incorporated as a non-profit for the last eight years. Most of that time has been spent restoring the property, but a series of concerts scheduled for this summer is set to announce the Botanical Gardens' presence to the public.

"We really wanted to have some events to introduce people to the gardens," says Chyna Brackeen, director of development and marketing.

New York folk singer Dar Williams kicks off the gardens' Stone Terrace Series on Saturday, July 25, at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $25 for garden members and $30 for the general public, with $50 VIP passes also available. Those include a pre-show reception, a meet-and-greet with Williams, and front-row seats. The concert will be held at the recently completed terrace garden. "When you see it, you think it's the perfect place for either a wedding or a concert," Brackeen says. The gardens also have a 36,000-square-foot open field that may host larger shows, she adds.

Solo cellist Ben Sollee continues the series on Saturday, Aug. 29. Two more shows may follow in the fall.

"We really tried to choose artists who share our values about a sustainable lifestyle but also fit the spirit of the place," Brackeen says.
