Community Design Center Seeks Artists for Interstate Mural

The Knoxville Community Design Center is looking for an artist for a big improvement project in Parkridge. The CDC was recently awarded a grant from the city of Knoxville and wants to use the money to fund a mural on the Interstate 40 underpass between Washington and Glenwood avenues in northeast Knoxville.

"The 6th Avenue underpass is currently an ugly, unfriendly, and littered place that attracts graffiti and illegal trash dumping," reads the application for CDC's Greenway Underpass Mural Project. "It is a classic example of urban blight. The mural project will be a community-based project carried out by volunteers in the Parkridge and adjacent neighborhoods, and in conjunction with the local arts community."

The CDC is accepting applications for the project through Feb. 15. The official selection process will begin in March. The winning artist will receive $1,000 in addition to having their design installed at the site.
