Bid farewell to Cold Hands

Long-running Knoxville indie-dance group Cold Hands will play its last show this weekend at Sassy Ann's. The band's calling it quits for a variety of reasons, but principle among them seems to be frontman Henry Gibson's recent full-time association with the Royal Bangs, with whom he'll be on tour this winter. Cold Hands will play its final show, for the foreseeable future anyway, on Friday, Jan. 23, at 9:30 p.m. Admission is $5. Gibson's also celebrating his birthday on Friday, "so we plan on getting a little on the wild side," says bassist Derek Ashe.

Ashe says he and the remaining members of Cold Hands—guitarist Zach Land and drummer Gene Priest—will all pursue either new bands or solo projects in 2009. The band's records—a 2006 self-titled EP and the 2008 full-length sex.beats.romance—are still available from The New Beat at thenewbeat.net.

The Royal Bangs will enter the studio in February to record the follow-up to their 2006 album We Breed Champions.
