WIGS to Get Rewrite?

The wine in grocery story bill, acknowledged to be one-sided in favor of the liquor store owners who get a two-year head start, is going through House committees. But there is a growing suspicion that the bill will wind up in a conference committee of the House and Senate, with committee members hand-picked by the speakers.

It is likely the bill will then be "adjusted" to reflect what the speakers want in it. After the bill is in final form in the conference committee, it comes back to the Senate and House floors for an up or down vote, with no amendments. Some items that could be changed in conference include a requirement that groceries mark up the wholesale price by 20 percent, the provision that prevents groceries from selling wine before 2016, or the square footage requirements that opt in or eliminate convenience stores.
