Given the drama surrounding the possible government shutdown and Congress working over the weekend, it was touch and go for Knoxville Democrats to land their keynote speaker for Truman Day. But Congressman Steve Cohen, D-Memphis, manage to get to town, speak to a crowd of 360, and raise money for local Democrats.
Cohen had to catch a plane at 7 a.m. Saturday morning, which spoiled plans for a breakfast fund-raiser. But an impromptu fund-raiser was quickly organized and happened anyway, at Chesapeake's after the Truman Day dinner Friday night. The meet and greet generated about $5,000 for Cohen.
