The Democrats were unable to convince actress Ashley Judd to run for the U.S. Senate against Bob Corker—but what about Lamar Alexander?
Judd was a delegate to the Democratic convention. She was a solid hit with the delegation and she is now being wooed to run for the senate when Alexander's term expires in 2014.
In the meantime, Judd has agreed to help the state party with fund-raising. The Democrats are hoping to keep her involved in politics and convince her to run.
Over the last 20 years Judd has starred in over 30 movies. She is the daughter of country singer Naomi Judd and sister of Wynonna Judd.
Alexander has said he has no plans to retire at the end of his term, though he will be 74 and would be 80 at the end of another term. The former governor and presidential candidate would be unlikely to make himself a lame duck by saying he isn't running again. Given his name recognition and fund-raising ability, he would not have to make a final decision on running until close to the next election.
The Democrats did convince actress Park Overall to run against Corker, but she was defeated in the primary.
