On To the Next Primary, Aug. 2

With one election out of the way, Knox County voters can now concentrate on picking at least two new members of the legislative delegation. State Rep. Harry Tindell is not seeking re-election. Republicans Gary Loe and Vanderbilt Brabson are seeking the seat, and Gloria Johnson is running for the Democrats.

There is also a new district in Knox County, located to the northwest, and those picking up petitions to run for the new seat are Shelly Breeding for the Democrats and Roger Kane, Joey McCulley, and Bo Pierce running as Republicans.

State Reps. Ryan Haynes, Steve Hall, Bill Dunn, and Harry Brooks and running for re-election unopposed. State Rep. Joe Armstrong hasn't picked up a petition yet, though Pete Drew is running as an independent and Brian Stevens is running as a Republican.

The deadline is April 5 to qualify.

State Sen. Becky Duncan Massey has picked up a petition and is thus far unopposed. She was just elected to fill out the term of former state Sen. Jamie Woodson and is running for a term of her own.

The primary election for these posts is Aug. 2.
