Former Knox County Sheriff Tim Hutchison made the rounds last weekend, appearing on both WBIR and WATE Sunday morning interview shows. Hutchison said he is definitely running for county mayor and named a treasurer because people have been offering to give him money to run and that is a necessary first step.
Hutchison said he will continue to draw his sheriff's department pension if elected, but would reduce his mayoral salary by a like amount, because it wouldn't be fair to draw both. Hutchison was in his fifth term as sheriff when he was term-limited out of office by a state Supreme Court decision. The only other declared candidate for mayor is state Sen. Tim Burchett. Both are Republicans.
Hutchison said he sold his interest in a now-bankrupt car dealership but his name shows up in the filings because "I never got my money."
