We wonder if Gov. Bill Haslam regrets turning the Tennessee Regulatory Agency into a part-time position? It has freed up long time TRA member Sara Kyle to conduct a "listening tour" of the state and consider a run for governor in 2014.
Kyle got a warm reception at the Democrats' annual Jackson Day dinner in Nashville with an ovation and cries of "Run, Sara, Run." Kyle has said in interviews that she has never met Haslam but she was upset that he turned a consumer agency into a part-time job. Kyle won a statewide race for the then-Public Service Commission in 1994 before it was converted to an appointed position. She served on the board since, even when it became the Tennessee Regulatory Agency. She quit when a Haslam-backed bill converted the board, which regulates utilities, to part-time.
A state party board member says Kyle has said she will continue her listening tour for a few months before she makes up her mind on whether to run.
