God Wants You To Vote For...?

This Sunday (Oct. 7) is Pulpit Freedom Day when ministers are supposed to endorse political candidates during their sermons in defiance of an Internal Revenue Service ruling. Pastors are being urged to film their endorsements and send them to the IRS.

The Alliance Defending Freedom group offers a free legal defense for any church audited or penalized by the IRS for endorsing political candidates. The group's website lists 539 churches that participated last year, and says none of them have been audited by the IRS. The IRS has ruled that endorsing political candidates from the pulpit can endanger a church's tax-exempt status.

Former state Sen. David Fowler, of the Family Action Council, is asking his Tennessee members to urge their ministers to take part in the protest.
