Gay Marriage in Tennessee?

Tennessee is in the same 6th District federal court circuit as Ohio, based in Cincinnati.

Ohio has a law against gay marriage. Tennessee has a law against gay marriage.

Ohio does recognize marriages performed in other states, as does Tennessee.

A federal judge in Ohio has ruled that two gay men, who were married in Maryland, are married in Ohio because Ohio recognizes legal marriages from other states.

The case will be appealed to the 6th Circuit Court. Decisions of the 6th Circuit are applicable in Tennessee.

Hmmm....

Three gay couples were turned away last week applying for a marriage license in Nashville and in Wilson County. Tennessee voters passed a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage in 2006 with a margin of 81 percent. But a Vanderbilt poll in May of this year had only 46 percent of those polled opposed to gay marriage.
