It appears that there won't be a Republican primary to pick an opponent for Democratic state Rep. Gloria Johnson. Archie Ellis, who looked at the race, has decided not to run. His job at Habitat for Humanity would have been awkward with him in the political arena.
That likely leaves the field open for Jason Emert, who has been gauging support for a run. He is vice-president of a family health care business.
Johnson has become very popular in Democratic circles and has had good support in fund-raising for her re-election bid. The Republicans would like to pick up the seat, once held by longtime Democratic legislator Harry Tindell.
But after Tindell retired and the district was redrawn, Johnson still managed to win the seat, though Republican Mitt Romney carried the district in the presidential race.
