Early voting starts tomorrow (Friday) in what is expected to be a low turnout election on Aug. 2, and some locations have changed.
In South Knox a location has been found in the Vocation Building behind South Doyle Middle School, with the entrance off Taylor Road. This solves what had been a controversy with some locals upset about the plan to use the Optimist Club building, which would have tied up a community meeting place.
At Downtown West Shopping Center, the location is in a building on the south end of the plaza, moved because the previous location has been leased.
At the 5541 Clinton Highway location, voting continues in the same strip shopping center, but has moved down a few doors, also because the previous location has been leased.
The election commission has to find locations where owners are willing to provide free space, there being no budget to rent voting locations.
The other sites for early voting are at the City County Building, Farragut Town Hall, the Love Kitchen, Halls Rec Center, Carter Library, and New Harvest Park. No early voting in Hardin Valley, the buildings are full up.
Early voting runs from July 13-July 28 and includes three Saturdays. Anyone over 60 years old can request an absentee ballot and vote from home. This might be helpful, given that there are eight charter amendments to study.
