A Haslam Scholar helping arrange for the nation's best-known communist to speak at the University of Tennessee?
Brianna Rader posted a notice on the KnoxViews website about a Feb. 4 program at UT with Angela Davis as speaker. Davis was an outspoken radical at UCLA during the 1960s and 1970s, the vice-presidential candidate of the Communist Party, and an advocate for the Black Panther Party. She has been invited by the Issues Committee on which Rader serves.
Rader identified herself as a Haslam Scholar and also as co-founder of UT's Sex Week, which got several Tennessee legislators (including Knoxville's state Sen. Stacey Campfield) incensed last year and led to threats to reduce UT funding.
