Most Knox County offices are in the midst of four year terms. But 2012 is not without politics. Law director, property assessor, and a special judge election are slated, as well as school board seats. Petitions have to be filed by Thursday for local elections in 2012.
Conley Underwood, who led the East Knox County community fighting for the Carter Elementary School, has picked up a petition to oppose incumbent school board member Mike McMillan.
Incumbent Karen Carson has filed her petition and Brian Bruce has picked up a petition for the race. Elaine Davis and Bobby Edington have petitions for an open seat and Indya Kincannon is unopposed thus far.
Bud Armstrong and Joe Jarret will be battling for law director and incumbent Phil Ballard is opposed by former assessor John Whitehead for the property assessor job.
Appointed incumbent Criminal Court Judge Stephen Sword, who replaced disgraced former judge Richard Baumgartner, is the only candidate thus far for the job.
