The Booting Heard 'Round the World

When Bistro at the Bijou owner Martha Boggs told state Sen. Stacey Campfield he wasn't welcome at her restaurant on Sunday due to his views on homosexuality and AIDS, little did she know she would become a national cause célèbre.

Shortly after she told Campfield to leave, she posted on Facebook, "I hope that Stacy Campfield now knows what if feels like to be unfairly discrimanted against" [sic]. The post went viral Sunday night, and by Tuesday, the story had been picked up by the Huffington Post, the Los Angeles Times, and CNN. Boggs was interviewed on XM radio about her stance, and the Bistro's Facebook page has been flooded with supportive comments from all over the world.

Campfield posted on his blog that he and his friends had brunch at Latitude 35 instead. "The cries of ‘Ha ha. we showed him!' fall flat to me. It is not I who lost out. My friends and I still had a good meal. We just gave our money to a more gracious host."
