Actress Ashley Judd lives in Nashville with her husband, race-car driver Dario Franchitti. She was a Tennessee delegate to the Democratic National Convention. She has pledged to help the state party raise money. Some members of the state Democratic Party executive committee have been hoping to talk Judd into running for the U.S. Senate in 2014 against Republican U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander.
Now comes news reports about Democrats in Kentucky trying to poach Judd to run against Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, of Kentucky. Judd was born and raised in Kentucky and she has not said no to a future in politics.
There had been some speculation in political circles this past year that Alexander might not seek another term. But Alexander had a "meet and greet" with long-time supporters recently and he assured them he would seek another term. Alexander is a former two-term governor of Tennessee and twice ran for president.
