Ban On Softball Coach Still in Place

Attorneys continue to negotiate over the decision to ban a softball coach, his wife and children from the Cedar Bluff-Farragut league. The Optimist Club league banned Andy Demick and his entire family after he protested being suspended for one game for abusing a referee.

Commissioner Richard Briggs, who represents the area, contacted the county recreation department after Metro Pulse reported the story. But the county position is that all decisions concerning the league are left to the league commissioners, not the county.

Chris Cain, who represents Demick, is talking with Jerry Martin, the attorney (and part-time municipal judge for the Town of Farragut) who is representing the Cedar Bluff-Farragut Optimists Club, but negotiations are at an impasse. The sticking points seems to be that banning Demick's entire family may be a problem, but the league is determined that Demick never coach in the league again.

Updated: Corrected the title of attorney Jerry Martin.
