Julian Mays has told a member of the House Republican Caucus he has decided against running for the state House of Representatives. He cited the time away from family and from his dental practice in order to run and serve.
The caucus is trying to make sure they have a good candidate to oppose state Rep. Gloria Johnson, who holds the seat once held by long time House member Harry Tindell. Tindell retired when the district was redrawn. It is now about 55 percent Republican and 45 percent Democratic in precinct totals. The Republicans would like to pick up the seat. Johnson has emerged as an effective leader among Democrats and has widespread support.
Archie Ellis had looked at the race and decided he couldn't serve and still work in development for Habitat for Humanity. Jason Emert, who works for his family's health care business, has also expressed interest in running for the seat.
