The current weather isn't all that conducive, but the French Market on Gay Street is set for spring with its brand-spanking new permit that allows dogs in its outdoor seating area. They're the first city restaurant to apply for and receive the "Dogs on Patios" permit after the Knoxville City Council passed an ordinance in December opting in to a new state law. The county was a bit ahead on this one; dogs in outdoor seating areas were allowed there starting at the end of September. And it's important to note: The permit only lets Fido and Fifi come onto the patio, not inside the restaurant or any place where food is being prepared. And leash laws still apply—in fact, they must be non-retractable. Wonder if French Market co-owner Allen Tate will develop an appropriate crepe for the newest set of patrons... or perhaps refillable doggie bags?
