Designing Freshman

Their interior design classes for adults have been wildly popular, and now University of Tennessee's Professional and Personal Development staff is hoping to attract high schoolers aspiring to design careers—or who at least want to create a really cool room. The point of Junior Interior Designers, which runs Monday-Friday (June 14-18), is to introduce design basics (color psychology, simple drafting, fabric selection) along with a behind-the-scenes look at what's involved with design education and careers. "This is part of Kids U, and with all our Kids U classes, our purpose is to get high schoolers thinking about possible careers before they even reach college," says program coordinator Jennifer Bennett. The instructor is Nancy Canestaro, who holds a doctorate in architecture. To register: or call 974-0150
