In the same location that previously housed Taj, Woodlands Indian Restaurant is actually a franchise that gets high marks from Indian communities in Nashville and Atlanta. It also gets very good grades from Knoxvillians who are pretty excited about its vegan-friendly menu that also features a lot of Indian fare that hasn’t been available in this area. Mumbai chaat, vada pav, dosa, and uttappas are among several dishes that distinguish this restaurant from others in the area. Tuesdays are half-price dosa night, and every day there’s a nice lunch buffet. Lunch: Monday-Friday: 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Saturday & Sunday: 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m.; Dinner: 5 p.m.-10 p.m. every day.

From YUMMM!, the Metro Pulse restaurant guide:

There’s a truth that all adventurous travelers keep close to their hearts and stomachs; it’s a key element in discovering a place’s real identity and getting past touristy façades. And that is: eat like a local. So when you’re looking for a really great, truly authentic Indian meal, you want to find out where the folks who are closest to that culture take their families to break bread. In Knoxville, that place is Woodlands Indian Restaurant.
You’ll find Woodlands restaurants in other cities, specifically in Nashville and Atlanta, because it’s famous among Indians for its fresh and authentic variety of Indian cuisine. It offers a unique perspective of the subcontinent’s culinary diversity and offers food from the far north to the southern tip of this vast and beautiful country.

Of course, you’ll find the classics of this popular cuisine—chicken and vegetarian curries, Biryani, as well as a number of goat and lamb preparations—but that’s only the beginning. At last, Knoxville has a place to enjoy a nice variety of Indian street food like Vada Pav, Bhel Puri, and Chaat. The menu also offers diners an opportunity to try a unique cross-cultural cuisine by way of a whole section of Indo-Chinese specialties.
Then there’s Uttappam and Dosa! Uttappam is a fairly new offering for Knoxville; it’s a rice and lentil pancake that comes with a variety of toppings like tomatoes and chilli, masala, and paneer. Dosa is a huge, crispy lentil and rice crepe that gets stuffed with all kinds of deliciousness and served with sambar and coconut chutney.
And if you’re testing to see if Indians really do eat at Woodlands, you won’t be disappointed on Tuesdays—that’s half-priced Dosa day and the place is hopping.

If you’re a vegan, this is the place to visit. There are lots of options on the menu, and Woodlands is happy to accommodate vegan needs. They’re also happy to serve folks with gluten allergies. Woodlands offers attentive, informative, and friendly service in addition to their fantastic array of food.

There’s really too much to describe. Of course, visiting when the buffet is open is a great way to graze your way through many of the regional cuisines on offer. Nevertheless, the simple fact of the matter is that you’ll have to make several visits, bring the whole family or every single one of your friends to make your way through the beautiful array of good and new experiences at Woodlands.
