Specializing in a unique blend of Southern cuisine, from Tennessee Brisket to Tomato ’n’ Blues salad, not to mention the best smoked wings in town, Sweet P’s guarantees rockin’ soul food for any occasion. Its restaurant at Willow Point Marina makes for scenic patio dining; plus, it has one of the best jukeboxes in town. And tailgaters, take note: Sweet P’s caters, too.

From YUMMM! The Metro Pulse Restaurant Guide:

You already know that Sweet P’s produces some of Knoxville’s most famous barbecue, featured on the Cooking Channel’s United Tastes of America and the Travel Channel’s Man vs. Food. (So far, seven other brave diners have successfully met the 4-pound burrito challenge.) Its unique twists on Carolina-style BBQ and St. Louis-style ribs have made owner Chris Ford’s “Family Juke Joint” a genuine tourist attraction in itself.

But now after feeding your belly you can feed your soul, too: Sweet P’s “Songwriters in the Soul House” concert series has put it on the music map. The roadhouse showcases regional and national talent that in other parts of the country might be playing at $15 or $20 tickets. But at Sweet P’s they play free. Every other Wednesday, Sweet P’s hosts Americana/R&B/country artists like Malcomb Holcombe, Webb Wilder, Angel Snow, Patrick Sweeney, or Randall Bramblett. They start playing around 6 p.m., and the music is family friendly, creating a truly unique night out in Knoxville.

Likewise, Sweet P’s has become the destination for can’t-miss celebrations, from the annual Smokin’ Day music festival in July and the Elvis Presley birthday bash to Mardi Gras and, for this year, something new: a 1982 World’s Fair 30th Anniversary in May. (Sweet P’s has become possibly the biggest single repository of ’82 World’s Fair memorabilia in the country.)

Maybe all that entertainment has been inspiring Sweet P’s chefs, because they’ve been having fun with the menu. While the daily specials are always worthy of your attention (especially Thursday: smoked meatloaf with a chipolte ketchup glaze), the cooks also whip up unpredictable Pit Master Specials that are more seasonal or based on what new ingredients they can get their hands on. For instance, you might discover the Tennessee Tostado made with pork BBQ over a corn griddle cake, or a chopped brisket sandwiches, or fresh gumbo, or even a crawfish boil.

Every visit to Sweet P’s promises a new experience.
