Mexican restaurant and sports bar where great food and great fans meet. The diverse menu blends accessible, mainstream dishes with the sort of traditional cooking that makes the restaurant a destination for Mexican expatriates, offering one of the best mole poblano sauces in town and exotic fare like cabeza sopes (cow’s head tortilla). There are also big-screen TVs showing sporting matches, a full bar, and full service.
From Yummm!, the Metro Pulse Restaurant Guide:
Crazy about sports? Craving authentic Mexican food at reasonable prices? Choose both at Soccer Taco’s multiple locations: bustling Market Square, flagship Bearden, or the newer Maryville spot. This is the place for soccer fanatics, with 10 or more flat-screen satellite televisions broadcasting sports events from all over the world. And hey, if you think football should involve helmets and touchdowns or basketball’s your thing, they also feature plenty of traditional American sports on the televisions, including the Big Orange.
Sip while you watch. Soccer Taco has a full bar, including swell jumbo margaritas, and is open until 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday. And for a truly unique evening, head down to the Market Square location’s basement bar for unique martinis and specialty tequilas, plus live entertainment (open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m.–3 a.m.). Meanwhile the Maryville location has trivia daily, and all locations include NFL Sunday Ticket and the UEFA Champions’ League every other week, Tuesday and Wednesday through March.
It’s no coincidence that Soccer Taco has won awards from three separate media outlets, with Metro Pulse Best of Knoxville 2012 wins for Best Mexican Restaurant, Best $5 Meal, Best Nachos, and Best Margarita. They make the good stuff, authentic Mexican homestyle, from shrimp enchiladas to stuffed poblano peppers to really tasty and fresh burritos, tacos, and fajitas. Signature dishes are too numerous to mention, but a few standouts include the Eagle Burrito Cheese Steak and Mole Poblano. There’s also a die-hard authentic menu, with Spanish names listed first, that includes home country ingredients like lengua (tongue) and cachet (cow’s cheek).
A great time to get a taste: lunch. The ever-popular Lunch Top 10 is technically the Lunch Top 11 now, but it still involves hearty, complete meals for $5.49.
