Runner-up for Best Seafood in Metro Pulse's 2009 Best of Knoxville Guide.

Since 1970, the Shrimp Dock seafood markets have been providing fresh seafood to consumers throughout the United States. It not only offers shrimp straight from the Gulf and wild salmon, but it also has some of the best clam chowder in the South.

From YUMMM!, the Metro Pulse restaurant guide:

There are a certain number of foods that are essential to the good life. Seafood is among them, and one of the greatest treats of the sea is the oyster. These bivalves find their way into the deep fryer, stew pot, and the grill; but never are they quite so sweet as when they’re served raw and in their own liquor.

Naturally, when you eat raw oysters, you want the best and the freshest—that’s why you go to the Shrimp Dock, Knoxville’s premiere seafood purveyor. After years of offering the finest fresh fruits of the sea, overstuffed and authentic po’boys, delicious jambalaya and clam chowder, the Shrimp Dock has opened an Oyster Bar right inside their Bearden location.

Open Monday-Saturday from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., they serve freshly shucked oysters from the waters of the Chesapeake Bay, Virginia, Long Island, Carolina, Massachusetts and Florida. Of course, these folks know how to treat their neighbors—when you buy six oysters, the seventh one is on the house. And like icing on a cake, they’ve gotten their beer license so you can also choose one of four craft beers to wash down the feast.
And the oyster bar isn’t the only thing new—they now offer fried okra and a New England Clam Roll. For lunch and early dinner, there’s no place else to eat seafood that’s consistently this fresh, this good.

Although shucked oysters aren’t available for takeout, while you’re there you can pick out the makings of another meal from their fresh fish case. They get daily deliveries of fresh fish from all three coasts: salmon from Alaska, Scotland, and Canada; scallops from New England; mahi-mahi from Florida; grouper from Florida; and, of course, Gulf white shrimp.

They’ll even cook it for you. And sometimes, they’ll come to your house; it’s almost crawfish and Low Country Boil time. The Shrimp dock is happy to cater those impressive feasts.

Where seafood is concerned, it’s all about freshness—not finding the cheapest product. These days it’s important to know where your fish, shrimp and oysters come from. These folks can not only tell you where their fish comes from but how long it’s been out of the water. You won’t find this kind of on-site expertise anywhere else; that’s part of what’s endeared this seafood shrine to Knoxville for over 20 years.

The Shrimp Dock takes pride in the trust they’ve earned. They know that you want to be sure that you get the best quality seafood from the people who know what they’re doing. At the Shrimp Dock, they work hard so you can be sure.
