Family-owned and operated for 21 years, Savelli’s is the antidote to corporate dining. Chef/owner Liz Savelli knows her authentic New York-style Italian, and she insists on fresh prep and high quality. Every dish is cooked to order, and all the sauces are made from scratch. Chef Liz also employs top-of-the-line cheeses and tomatoes in savory dishes from pizzas and baked or fried calzones to Savelli’s melt-in-your-mouth signature eggplant Parmesan. Fresh seafood is served daily. Wine is BYOB. Reservations recommended. (Closed between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.)

From the Yummm! Restaurant Guide:

Family-owned and operated for 21 years, Savelli’s is the antidote to corporate dining. Chef/owner Liz Savelli knows her authentic New York-style Italian—“I’ve had people say it’s better than food they ate in Italy,” she quips—and insists on fresh prep and high quality. All the sauces are made from scratch, for example, and she employs top-of-the-line cheeses and tomatoes in savory dishes from pizzas and baked or fried calzones to Savelli’s melt-in-your-mouth signature eggplant parmesan. Oh, and the submarine sandwiches—plan to adore the hot Italian, or branch out with two subs you’ll not find anyone else: the blackened grouper or ahi tuna with pesto mayonnaise.

Which leads us to the seafood; it’s crazy good. Liz hails from the Chesapeake Bay, and she does some sweet things with crab cakes, grouper or scallops piccata, and blue crab ravioli. Finishes include a tiramisu that comes out of New York and a Bananas Foster Bread Pudding that’s been getting raves for about a year now.

Another thing about Savelli’s: Just expect the unexpected, because you never know what Chef Savelli will do next. “We’ve added to the menu little by little, and our specials are some people’s very favorite,” she says. “I get inspired by the chefs on TV and think, ‘I’m gonna do that.’ Then I come down to Savelli’s and start whipping up stuff.”

We visited Savelli's last weekend for the first time. The best way I can describe it, is getting the very best food you've ever ate handed to you out of the back of a food-truck. The atmosphere is dark, cheap, and cramped up; But the food is the best ever! The service wasn't too warm, the wait was a bit long, but again: The Food was Out of this world Delicious!! (The good, the bad, the ugly: But the truth)

There are quite a few Italian restaurants around Knoxville that are good, but few have the fine seasonings and atmosphere that remind us of our trip to Italy last summer. We had great food and times at private restaurants there just like Savelli's

Cramped and loud!! The food is no better than Domino's Pizza! We were celebrating a special occasion on 5/26/12 anticipating great Italian food... NOT! Both the Stromboli and Pizza were awful! The menu priced the large Stromboli at $11.99 which included pepperoni, Italian sausage and mushrooms; additional toppings were listed separately at $1.50 each. Two of us ordered the large Stromboli... when we got out tab we were charged $4.50 each for toppings. I pointed out to the server that we didn't order extra toppings only the three included with the Stromboli. She said no toppings are included at the $11.99 price which is clearly not what the menu described! That's $16.49 each for burnt Stromboli (x2)! When I complained to the owner she said they were printing a new menu clarifying this issue and said I should "make sure I understand what I am getting before ordering next time". There won't be a next time!!
